MY ADVENTURE

Meet The Author

I'm not going to pretend I get out much, but when I do, I go places. I've been to Russia once, South Korea twice, and nearly got myself arrested while passing through the Amsterdam International Airport (that was my bad, but the cops were really nice about it).

Recently reaching my 33rd trip around the sun, I think it's fair to say I've been a late bloomer. Growing up, I hated everything to do with school until I began homeschooling in 6th grade. Even after discovering a love for reading and writing in high school, I still didn't realize I could be an author until 1 (gap) year after I graduated.

Before that moment—the moment I realized I could spend my life telling stories—my future looked gray. Every time I tried to imagine different paths for my life, they just didn't feel right. But writing did. Storytelling felt like the answer I had been staring at and looking for my entire life.

Now after almost 10 years of pursuing writing, my world is still bursting at the seams with the vibrant stories that live in my head. Each one is a gift from God, another life to live, another person to know, another trial to overcome, another chance to better know Him, another soul to redeem or demon to defeat. No matter what my life is like, I have God and the stories He lends me, and He paints my future in colors I never knew existed.

This is the part where I invite you, whoever you are, and wherever you are reading this, to join me on this adventure as God shows me the depths of His heart through each line. We may travel to other planets, to other universes, other eras, but there is nowhere we can hide from Him. We'll meet shapeshifters, fairies, centaurs, mermaids, vampires, zombies, angels, demons, but no matter what we find or the darkness we may encounter, there is no darkness that can quench His light or separate us from His love.

                                                                                                       Hoping you'll join me!

My Pen Name

Almost everyone I talk to has questions about my Pen Name, so I thought I'd answer a few common ones here.

How is it pronounced?

The H is silent, the rest is simple; it looks more intimidating than it is <3 - Mah-oh-lin.

Why not use your given name?

I'll be honest, my graphic art and formatting brain just really doesn't like the way McMillin looks on a book cover.

Why did you choose it?

I wanted a name that still reflected my father's name and my family name. The name McMillin is an English variant of the ancient Mac Maoláin, which has both Scottish and Irish origin. The root word maol refers to someone who is bald, but more precisely, tonsured, meaning a voluntary haircut which represents a separation from the world, and a devotion to a specific faith. In other words, the Clan of Maol were originally sons of Celtic monks.

I've said for a while that if the non-denominational Christian church had nuns, I think that's the occupation I would've chosen. That's not to say I've never wanted to be married, but after being single for 33 years, I think it's safe to assume I would've been a much more successful nun. The missionary field can offer that kind of life of service and fulltime ministry, but after pursuing that in vain for some years, God made it clear my mission field is closer to home.

So not only did I like the name, but I felt the meaning was very fitting to my path: to pursue to Him and minister to those He's given me, both in my day to day life, and my writing.
